Château Pichon Baron Pauillac 2e Grand Cru Classé 2019
Proefnotitie: Diepdonkerrood van kleur met een ondertoon van granaatappel rood. De neus is delicaat met tonen van vers zwart fruit, zoals zwarte bes en kruiden, De aanzet in de mond is zacht, sappig met goed geïntegreerde tannines. De afdronk is zeer lang.

Met zijn twee karakteristieke torentjes ziet Château Pichon Baron er precies zo uit als je van een Frans kasteel verwacht. De geschiedenis gaat terug naar de 17e eeuw, maar het kasteel dateert uit 1851. Een jaar eerder werd het landgoed namelijk in tweeën gesplitst: Pichon Baron (ook Pichon de Longueville genoemd) en Pichon Comtesse (ook Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande genoemd). Baron Raoul Pichon de Longueville was trots op zijn eigendom en liet een imposant kasteel bouwen, hetgeen we nu kennen als Château Pichon Baron.
Eén van de mooiste bezienswaardigheden in de Bordeaux is ongetwijfeld Château Pichon-Longueville. Tegenover Château Pichon-Longueville-Comtesse de Lalande en Château Latour én met zijn kenmerkende spitse torens is het één van de blikvangers in de Médoc. Zeker ook qua wijn, want sinds de adviezen van Jean-Michel Cazes is het Château vanaf 1986 zijn status van Deuxième Cru Classé meer dan waardig. Voor diegenen die het Château (nog) niet kennen: veel concentratie, krachtig en stevige tannines.
